Robert Irwin’s nearly imperceptible acrylic columns in the 9 x 9 x 9 gallery were first concieved in 1969. It is impossible to see them in their entirety and even though sizeable they are hard to percieve. Walking around them I noticed how the columns make the light bend when you look through them and the clean straight lines of the gallery distort by just a fraction but change the space you think you are seeing. These columns are delicate and near imperceptible leave a big impression.

Cerith Wyn Evans

Even though Johathan Jones form the Guardian slated Cerith’s work currently on at the Serpentine Sackler Gallery. I really liked what I saw of his work at the Bermondsey South Galleries by Cerith. Beautifully curated I loved the rotating palmtrees and the ‘fluted sculptural chandelier’ that breathed and piped soundscapes throughout the gallery. Then there was a group of neon hangings retracing the steps and movements taken from the concept of ancient traditional Japanese Noh Theatre. The installation is a play between the solid and the conceptual. The aesthetic is very appealing and the pieces communicate poetic ideas made to look substantial and solid in form.  Yet they can also be viewed as drawings made with light as I found out when my camera made them into black and white drawings when I wanted to capture the images.

Bold Tendencies is this years exhibition program in a disused multi-story car park in Peckham. It is curated by Metahaven and AirBnB Pavilion. I liked the Richard Wentworth
treatment!
