NINA GEHL ‘Missing Persons’

Paintings from Ash
2nd July – 9th July 2011
Nina Gehl works from what can be salvaged from the ashes. Inspired by found images on the missing persons internet site and drawing on her original training in figurative portraiture Nina Gehl mixes the medium of oil with ash burnt from wood or cremated remains. The paintings embodying the ghostly figures of unknown and unidentified people. Whether singular or groups of figures the paintings confound and subversively comment on the traditions of portraiture, its history and its banality.
